Unicord [CLIPP096] by Braue
I’m told Braue was raised in the rainforest basin of Vancouver, British Columbia. “Misty, shrouded and often impenetrable,” informs her online bio ”..the region’s influence drenches Braue’s music and brings a deep, contemplative and rain kissed coastal feeling to every mix, production and event.” Which if you listen in the context of her track “Unicord” makes total sense. Braue is also a classically trained pianist, not immediately apparent on this track, but which comes into discernable range upon repeated listens with the finer details and micro flourishes emerging through the moody haze like a deer in the night, revealing itself moments before impact in the soft focus of speeding headlights. Maybe it’s because she has been a DJ for a really long time, mixed with the ubiquitous vibe of spending time in Berlin - the moody, eerily tough sonic palette of Unicord comes as no surprise, and of course I’m totally about it.
