Tenshiesque EP [CLIPP236 ] By Levi.

“Tenshiesque” is a genre created by Tokyo based footwear fetishist Levi. It applies to sounds with a dark and foreboding yet ethereal vibe, and is also the title of this debut collection of hazy tracks by the aforementioned architecture enthusiast. Opening track “守護天使 (Shugotenshi)” sets the mood, sounding like a lo-fi house tune that's been thrown down a deep well, while “三軒茶屋 (Sangenjaya)” features bars of Japanese raps, drowned in treacle. “VIRTUAL” and “AESOP” have the feeling of King Krule stuck in a Lost in Translation midnight viewing in an underground Shibuya cinema. “FRUiTS” channels the spirit of John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards in a Tokyo subway restroom - but replacing the sleaze jazz with low lazy raps, and slurring saxophones with more of those lofi house beats, bleeding out of an unseen platform speaker. By comparison “GARÇON” is ludic dream pop.

Overall, the EP is more Duo Lingo than Dua Lipa, but that’s ok. This is slinky slow slung catwalk music for friends to stalk neon streets. Very Tenshiesque.
