As Within So Without [CLIPP218] By Anna Dubowick

For anyone familiar with our international DJ Mix series, Anna Dubowick is a familiar name. A longtime friend of the label, 2022 found the Ukrainian artist commencing working on her debut EP “As Within So Without” from what was to become the epicentre of military events in her mother country. Synths and pad atmospheres sculpturing by the sounds and emotions of her surreal surroundings. After 100 days of war Anna moved to safe harbour in the city of NYC to begin life anew and where she began incorporating syncopated rhythms and rubbery breakbeats into the mix. Following release of track “As Above So Below”, on the Autumn Equinox, the EP now drops on Halloween 2022; oscillating between ambient and fractal forms, melancholic post punk motives and trancey shimmering sounds that summon everyone together for the deep translucent states of mind. It is an emergence to what has become an emotionally charged spiritual journey into observation and reflection on such thought provoking themes as life and death, evolution and collective intelligence. From one who has experienced the absurdity of war and its effects on family and home. 

In Anna’s own words: “As Above So Below is dedicated to passionate spirits, to those determined to live their lives on their own terms. Frequencies that wake up secret impulses. The ghost of your deep-seated desires, of your hidden thoughts: an eternal seduction with a sense of sweet melancholy.”

The last track from the EP "1654" is an ambient ode to the soulful beauty of Anna's hometown - Kharkiv, Ukraine. An impeccable and sensitive interpretation of her memories: where gardens and flower beds come to life with bold colors each spring, childhood memories from her country house and her grandma's signature "vareniki" with garden cherries, sunflower fields and a place where time stands still.
