Handsome Cat [CLIPP136] by Spatial Awareness
According to his bio Spatial Awareness is “a dj and producer taking the slightly more oblique path; part unreconstructed indie kid, part old school rave enthusiast, part techno fiend, part disco weirdo, and possibly part werewolf.” It was this aesthetic clearly visible on 2019’s “Shy Nerruda” which grabbed our attention and was a set staple (as heard in the clipp.art mix for Sloth Boogie). Acid, disco, techno, and house all blur together sublimely at the edges in the sonic world of Spatial Awareness. An array of eclectic tastes ensure a lot of quite disparate things that go into the Spatial Awareness melting pot – dub, film soundtracks, electronica, post-punk, motorik rhythms, synthpop, Bowie and Roxy and the Velvets and more besides. Elements of all these things seep into the music Spatial Awareness makes and plays and are front and centre on new tracks “Handsome Cat” and the fidgety “Modion”.
With releases on Twirl!, Zombie Soundsystem, Fetch, DJ Pierre’s Jack Trax imprint and New York’s Get Up Recordings, as well as remixes for Type 303 (on the vinyl only I Love Acid label), Jozef K, Boy George, Severino & Faber, Shaun J. Wright & Alinka, The Woodentops and Hannah Holland on her dope Batty Bass label, we welcome Spatial Awareness to the pantheon of clipp.art champions.
