Fantasy [CLIPP107] by Kirill Mazhai
Ok so 2019 has been great and all, but also a turbulent year of crazy personalities, bizarre outcomes and the occasional deep weirdness situation, so it is a refreshing pleasure that Minsk-based composer and artist Kirill Mazhai arrives on clipp.art with something completely different as the clock ticks down on the end of this ridiculous decade.
The triptych of tracks comprising “Fantasy” all sit resoundly in the ambient music genre, which is an arena super close to my heart and one I hope we explore more angles of inside the next year. But there’s a rawness in the fabric of these pieces that really attracted us to them for the clipp.art catalog. “No Beginning” comprises gradually constructed overlapping layers of warm strings in a 9 minute long meditation before setting you adrift into eternity. “No End” takes a slow stroll around the zen garden of your mind as sustained drones waft past without judgement. “Sweet Sweet Fantasy” beams in from a place where both future and past collide, like something from a John Carpenter soundtrack, before giving way to delicate pulses that beckon you furthermore into the sweet abyss. Raw timeless emotion is the speed here, please stay a while.
